In Ghana we are named according to the day of the week we are born. My daugther was born on Tuesday so she is Abena and my son was born Monday so he is Kojo. The brand AbKo is an abbreviated combination of their soul names Abena and Kojo and they are all wrapped in God’s love.
As a native of Ghana, waist beads have always meant more than a fashion statement to me. I grew up wearing waist beads to symbolize cultural values that were held dear to my Akan Tribe. In my family, our grandmothers, mothers, aunties etc would adorn us with waist beads during our baby naming and puberty ceremonies. These beads would be changed through the years as our bodies went through metamorphosis.
Abko Creation seeks to educate and extend this beautiful culture to other women who wish to connect to their heritage.
